Jordan Post-Trip Extension
A four-night post-tour extension allows travelers to enjoy Jordan’s rich archeology, history, desert culture, and cuisine. Included are a full day of exploration at the magnificent “rose-red” city of Petra, Jordan, where a 1,200-meter-long Siq, a narrow winding wadi (canyon), makes this site deservedly one of the modern world’s Seven Wonders, a 4-wheel-drive adventure through Wadi Rum’s sweeping dun-colored expanses, otherworldly rock formations, and ancient hieroglyphs, and a guided visit of the columns and arches at the ancient city of Jerash.

    John Meffert, consultant on Heritage Conservation Services, has a long tradition with the National Trust. He has served as the Director for our Southern Office and was the director of the Preservation Society of Charleston, the oldest nonprofit organization in the United States, responsible for preserving the historic resources of Charleston, S.C. John has delighted many study tour groups with his lectures and insights on preservation, and receives rave reviews as study leader.

CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS Upon payment of the $1,000 per person deposit, all reservations are subject to the cancellation provisions set forth below and by which the passenger agrees to be bound. Cancellations shall not be in effect until they are received in writing and confirmed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Deposits are refundable (less a $250 per person administration fee) if written notice of cancellation is received within 30 days of reservation; after that, deposits are 100% nonrefundable. After final payment deadline on November 6, 2023, all payments are 100% nonrefundable, regardless of booking date. Trip cancellation insurance is strongly recommended. NOTE: Neither the National Trust for Historic Preservation nor Criterion Travel, the tour operator, accepts liability for any airline cancellation penalties incurred with the purchase of non-refundable tickets.

    Arrive Cairo

    Arrive in Cairo and transfer to the Mena House Hotel. Evening reception and orientation briefing at the hotel.

  • day 3

    Cairo

    Tour the Great Pyramids of Giza. Specially arranged viewing of the Paws of the Sphinx. Optional visit to the Bent Pyramid at Saqqara. BLD

  • day 4

    Cairo

    Special guest lecture, then morning tour of Islamic Cairo, including Egypt’s oldest mosque. Evening at leisure.

  • day 5

    Cairo-Luxor

    Visit the highly anticipated Grand Egyptian Museum, then fly via charter plane to Luxor for embarkation.

  • day 6

    Luxor

    Early morning excursion to the Valley of the Kings, followed by Valley of Nobles. Evening visit to Luxor Temple.

  • day 7

    Luxor

    Morning excursion to Karnak Temple complex and Luxor Museum.

  • day 8

    Luxor/Edfu

    Special access to Nefertari’s Tomb at Valley of the Queens, Tomb of the Nobles; photo op at the Colossi of Memnon. Afternoon cruising to Edfu.
