ITINERARY

  • day 1

    DEPARTURE / BARBADOS

    Upon arrival in Barbados this afternoon, transfer to the sailing yacht Emerald Azzurra for our seven-night Caribbean cruise.

  • day 2

    CARRIACOU, GRENADA

    Following a morning at sea and lunch on board, arrive in charming Carriacou. Discover the Carriacou Historical Society & Museum, which houses Arawak and Carib artifacts as well as extensive colonial collections in a historic building that was once a cotton ginnery. Alternatively, enjoy the powdery sand of the island’s beaches.

  • day 3

    DAY AT SEA

    Spend the day at sea. Following morning lectures, enjoying the warm breeze of the Caribbean. This evening, join the captain for welcome cocktails, followed by dinner.

  • day 4

    CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS

    This afternoon, call at the island of Nevis, birthplace of Alexander Hamilton. See the childhood home of the famed Founding Father. Continue on to the spectacular Botanical Gardens of Nevis, and explore its five acres of orchid terraces, various tropical plants, and a rainforest conservancy. We will dock overnight in the quaint village of Charlestown.

    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS / AFTERNOON AT SEA

    Arrive on the island of St. Kitts, the first permanent English settlement in the Caribbean and the home of Alexander Hamilton’s mother for many years. Visit the imposing fortress on Brimstone Hill, known as “the Gibraltar of the West Indies” for its extensive battery. UNESCO recognized this site as an outstanding, extraordinarily well-preserved example of British military architecture from the 17th and 18th centuries. Discover Romney Manor, an 18th-century plantation house formerly owned by a direct ancestor of Thomas Jefferson. After lunch set sail for an afternoon at sea while taking in the beautiful and serene Caribbean waters.

  • day 6

    ÎLES DES SAINTES, GUADELOUPE

    An archipelago of eight tiny volcanic islands, the Îles des Saintes is the site of the 1782 Battle of the Saintes between the British Royal Navy and the French fleet. Tour the colonial-style capital, Terre-de-Haut, or visit 17th-century Fort Napoléon, with its commanding views and exotic gardens. You may also choose to enjoy a swim at one of the white-sand beaches before returning to our ship.

  • day 7

    SOUFRIÈRE, ST. LUCIA

    Anchor this morning in the Bay of Soufrière, tucked between the dramatic Anse des Pitons. Step ashore to tour the lush Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens, with its bounty of tropical blossoms as well as hot mineral springs and a dazzlingly colorful waterfall. In the early afternoon, set sail for Barbados. Gather for the captain’s farewell dinner this evening.

  • day 8

    BARBADOS / DISEMBARK / RETURN

    Disembark Emerald Azzurra early this morning, and transfer to the airport for the flights home.
