CANCELLATION-You will receive a full refund for cancellations made up to 90 days prior to trip departure. Cancellations from 89 to 76 days prior to departure will be subject to a $300 per person administrative fee. The withheld administrative fee may be applied to a future AHI Travel program that will operate in the current calendar year or year following cancellation. The credit will be applied to the final billing and may not be used as part of the initial deposit. It is non-transferable and is not valid toward the purchase of an AHI Cruises independent cruise. Cancellations from 75 days to 60 days prior to departure will result in forfeiture of 25% of the entire cost of the trip per person; 59-30 days, 50% of the trip cost per person; cancellations from 29 days up to the time of departure will result in 100% forfeiture of the entire cost of the trip. TRIP CANCELLATION INSURANCE IS AVAILABLE. AN APPLICATION WILL BE SENT AFTER YOU RESERVE. All cancellations must be submitted in writing to AHI Travel.     In Transit | Mérida, Mexico

    Arrive at Mérida International Airport, where an AHI Travel representative will be waiting to take you to the Villa Mercedes Merida, Curio Collection by Hilton.

  • day 2

    Mérida

    This morning, delve into the Yucatán Peninsula’s history before heading out for a guided walk around Mérida. See the stately buildings in Plaza Grande and dramatic murals by Mexican painter Fernando Castro Pacheco inside the Palacio del Gobierno de Yucatán. Refuel with a delicious lunch, and then get prepped for your upcoming explorations at the Grand Maya World Museum, filled with artifacts and exhibits on ancient and contemporary Mayan culture. Wrap up your day with a Welcome Reception and Dinner with your fellow travelers.

    Uxmal | Muna | Peba

    Today, take in the breathtaking ruins of Uxmal, and learn how the ancient Maya’s view of life as an eternal cycle influenced every aspect of their civilization. See exceptional architecture, including the Pyramid of the Magician, the House of the Governor and much more. After lunch, watch a talented artist create ceramics using traditional Mayan methods. Then go down to see one of the Yucatán picturesque cenotes, natural freshwater wells in underground caverns. Back in Mérida later, a local expert discusses the golden age of the Mayan civilization. Your day concludes with a wonderful musical performance, the Yucatecan Serenade.

    Sihunchen Park | Celestún Estuary | Mérida | Personalize Your Journey

    Start your day with insights on Mayan astronomy and myths at Sihunchen Park. Next, journey to the tranquil Celestún Estuary, a favorite resting place for migrating birds. Delight in the lovely sight of flocks of graceful, pink flamingos wading and flying here, along with other bird species and wildlife, on a pleasant cruise through the lush mangrove. Relax at a beachside restaurant afterward. In Mérida tonight, choose a fun tour that speaks to you, focused on street food, honey bees or a historic mansion!

    Chichén Itzá

    This majestic Mayan city flourished as a hub of military and religious power from the eighth to the 13th centuries. Explore this impressive and beautiful archaeological site with intriguing insights from your guide. Marvel at the imposing Pyramid of Kukulcan; the Caracol, where it’s believed the Maya observed the movements of the planet Venus; the vast playing field of the Great Ballcourt and other remarkable structures. Tonight, in Mérida, enjoy an uplifting cultural performance featuring joyful Mariachi music and colorful, swirling dancers.

    Hoctún | Izamal

    Visit a unique cemetery in the small town of Hoctún that captures the spirit of the Yucatán’s relationship with death. Beyond the cemetery gate, you’ll discover a rainbow of brightly painted mausoleums, elaborately adorned by family members with flowers, religious images and touching sculptures that honor their loved one’s personality. Learn about the traditions of Hanal Pixán, the Yucatán’s version of the Day of the Dead. Next, soak up the sunny ambience of Izamal, Yucatán’s Yellow City, and tour the 16th-century Convento de San Antonio de Padua. Afterward, enjoy a jewelry-making demonstration by a master craftsman and lunch at a popular restaurant.

    Mérida

    This morning, hear about the social and economic issues affecting daily life in the Yucatán. Then visit Mérida’s bustling Mercado Central, where you’ll sample tasty, indigenous fruits and vegetables and learn about the history of the Yucatán diet. Cap off your excursion with a flavorful lunch of classic Yucatecan dishes at the Museo de la Gastronomía Yucateca. This afternoon, venture off on your own during free time, then rejoin your group for a Farewell Reception and Dinner.

    Depart for home city

    After breakfast, bid farewell to your fellow travelers and head home.
