This program celebrates the mosaic of vibrant cultural traditions and the stunning natural beauty found in the Indonesian archipelago. Participants will be treated to a rich blend of traditional demonstrations and performances alongside wildlife walks and snorkeling the warm, crystalline waters. The end of September and early October are ideal times to visit, offering sunny weather, warm temperatures, and fewer crowds than the peak summer months. Heritage Adventurer offers snorkeling equipment, a full fleet of 14 Zodiacs and an outstanding expedition team of 10 naturalists, which allows the group to enjoy exceptional snorkeling encounters and remote island exploration. Purpose-built for adventure in 1991, Heritage Adventurer provides a relaxing home base for experiencing Asia and Oceania. The comfortable, first-class accommodations include suites, staterooms and public areas filled with natural light from large picture windows. Soak up sea views from open decks; two separate bar and lounge areas feature 180-degree views, and the open-topped Observation Deck showcases 360-degree views.

All suites and staterooms are river-view and feature a comfortable bed; writing desk & chair; private balcony with chairs & table; private bathroom with vanity, walk-in shower, bathrobe & luxury toiletries. Upon payment of the $1,000 per person deposit, all reservations are subject to the cancellation provisions set forth below and by which the passenger agrees to be bound. Cancellations shall not be in effect until they are received in writing and confirmed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Deposits are refundable (less a $250 per person administration fee) if written notice of cancellation is received within 30 days of reservation; after that, deposits are 100% nonrefundable. After final payment deadline all payments are 100% nonrefundable, regardless of booking date. Trip cancellation insurance is strongly recommended. NOTE: Neither the
National Trust Tours nor Criterion Travel, the tour operator, accepts liability for any airline cancellation penalties incurred with the purchase of non-refundable tickets.

ITINERARY

  • days 1-3

    Overnight flight to Bali, crossing the International Date Line.

    Arrive Densapar Airport (DPS); group transfer to beachfront resort. Welcome orientation & reception.

     

  • day 4

    Bali

    Visit the emerald Jatiluwih Rice Terraces in Bali’s central highlands; delicious barbecue dinner this evening.

     

  • day 5

    Bali/Embark Heritage Adventurer

    Visit Bali Museum to view paintings, crafts, tools, costumes and masks; private Gamelan orchestra demonstration; embark this afternoon.

  • day 6

    Probolinggo, East Java

    Full day of exploration to view stunning Mt. Bromo which consists of 5 overlapping stratovolcanoes. Lecture #2; Captain’s welcome reception and dinner.

  • day 7

    Semarang, Java

    Full day visit to view the stunning 8th century Buddhist Borobodur temples near Yogyakarta.

  • day 8

    Day at Sea

    Enjoy a leisurely day on board with a full complement of 3-4 lectures as the ship sails south towards Lombok.

  • day 9

    Camp Leakey, Tanjung Puting National Park, Borneo

    Full day exploration by river (via traditional wooden “klotok” boats) to visit Camp Leakey, a world-renowned orangutan rehabilitation and release site. Observe the animals alongside researchers and park rangers.

  • day 10

    Day at Sea

    Enjoy a leisurely day on board; the lecture program continues.

  • day 11

    Sumbawa Besar & Satonda Island

    Lecture #9; morning visit to Pamulung Village to observe rice harvesting and pounding and a weaving demonstration; afternoon snorkeling in a secluded crater formed by an ancient volcano.

     

     

  • day 12

    Komodo National Park

    Full day visit to Komodo National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Guided walks to look for the famous Komodo dragon in the wild, along with deer, wild boar, water buffalo, macaque and many birds; snorkel amidst the colorful marine life or walk the beach. Lecture #10 before dinner.

     

     

     

  • day 13

    Lombok

    Final lecture followed by full day of exploration at Lombok. Options include private weaving demonstration at traditional Sasak village; looking for sea turtles while snorkeling; explore the 18th century Pura Lingsar temple complex. Captain’s Farewell Reception and Dinner on board this evening.

  • day 14

    Bali/Return to U.S.

    Disembark in Benoa, Bali. Transfer to airport for return flights to the U.S
