    Depart your gateway city for Cairo, Egypt

    Arrive at Cairo International Airport, where a Travel representative will meet you and escort you to the Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at Nile Plaza.

    Cairo

    Look forward to intriguing insights about ancient Egypt from your knowledgeable Egyptologist throughout your travels! Begin with a visit to the remarkable Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), the largest dedicated to one civilization, which houses an incredible collection of priceless antiquities within an architecturally stunning space. Arranged by time periods and themes, its galleries focus on ancient Egypt’s daily life, traditions, spiritual beliefs and burial customs. This evening, get better acquainted with your fellow travelers at a Welcome Reception.

    Sakkara | Giza

    Today, trace the pyramid’s evolution from flat, mudbrick tombs called mastabas to terraced stone versions and ultimately, Giza’s enormous structures. In Saqqara, visit the Mastaba of Mereruka, the Pyramid Tomb of King Teti and the Step Pyramid of Djoser, considered the first pyramid. Later, contemplate the Great Pyramid of Giza, built for the pharaoh Khufu out of approximately 2.3 million massive blocks, along with other pyramids and the iconic, imposing Sphinx nearby

    Cairo

    Today’s agenda showcases Islamic and Coptic Cairo. Stroll with your guide along lively Al-Muizz, where Cairo’s many grand mosques are located. Tour the 13th-century Qalawun complex, featuring a madrassa, mausoleum and historic hospital, and visit Bayt Al-Suhaymi, a beautiful, 17th-century house. Then, appreciate the buzzing scene at the colorful Khan el Khalili bazaar. After a delicious lunch, learn about Coptic Cairo during visits to the Hanging Church, one of the oldest churches in Egypt, and the Church of St. Sergius and Bacchus, believed to be built over a cave where Mary, Joseph and Jesus once rested after fleeing to Egypt.

    Cairo | Luxor

    Fly to Luxor this morning to explore the glories of ancient Thebes, the capital city of the Middle and New Kingdoms. At the Luxor Museum, admire artifacts from its temples and necropolis. Afterward, enjoy lunch at the Hilton Luxor Resort & Spa before checking in. Rejoin your group and sail by felucca along the Nile River to the Temple of Luxor. Commissioned by Amenhotep III, this majestic complex was connected to the Temple of Karnak by an avenue of sphinxes.

    Luxor | Embark Ship

    Explore the captivating Valleys of the Kings and Queens, where New Kingdom pharaohs and their families awaited immortality in once-hidden tombs adorned with astonishingly vibrant hieroglyphics. Step inside Tutankhamen’s tomb, the Tomb of Seti I, the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut and Amun-her-Khepeshef’s tomb before embarking the ship for your Nile cruise. In Luxor later, learn about the Chicago House’s fascinating preservation work during an exclusive visit.

    Karnak | Cruising the Nile

    This morning, visit the Temple of Karnak, a sprawling city of temples built over a period of 2,000 years. In this awe-inspiring religious site, be awed by a veritable forest of 134 gigantic sandstone columns while wandering through the great hall of the Temple of Amun-Ra. After lunch on the ship, take advantage of the onboard amenities during your leisure time this afternoon. Later, watch from the rail as the ship transits the Esna Lock.

    Cruising | Edfu | Kom Ombo

    This morning, the ship cruises to Edfu. Disembark for a visit to the wonderfully preserved Temple of Horus at Edfu. After lunch back on board the ship, join an Egyptologist for an engaging talk. When the ship arrives in Kom Ombo, explore the Temple of Kom Ombo, an unusual double temple complex dedicated to the crocodile-headed Sobek, god of fertility, and falcon-headed Haroeris, god of the sky. This evening, gather for an entertainment program on the ship.

    Aswan | Philae | Nubian Village

    The ship arrives in Aswan this morning and docks for the day. Board a felucca and sail to the beautiful island temple complex of Philae, dedicated to the goddess Isis. Afterward, learn about the ancient process of handcrafting papyrus at the Papyrus Institute. Head back to the ship for lunch, and then visit a Nubian village filled with brightly painted homes, where you’ll enjoy tea with a local family. Tonight, meet for a gala Farewell Party on the ship that features a Dervish show and belly dancer performance.

    Disembark ship | Abu Simbel | Cairo

    Disembark the ship in Aswan after breakfast and fly to Abu Simbel. Gaze up at the astounding Great Temple of Ramses II carved out of sandstone cliffs with four mammoth statues flanking the entrance, and the impressive, neighboring temple dedicated to the goddess Hathor and Queen Nefertari. Continue to the airport in Abu Simbel and fly to Cairo via Aswan. Check in to your evening room at the InterContinental Citystars Cairo, and unwind before an early morning departure for your flight home.
