    Arrive in Santiago de Compostela

    After landing at Porto Airport, meet your AHI Travel representative who will take you to the parador in Baiona on a peninsula by the Atlantic Ocean. Later this evening, get acquainted with your fellow travelers at a Welcome Reception and Dinner

    Baiona

    This morning, a local expert delves into the history of Galicia, setting the stage for your explorations. Stroll afterward with your guide through charming Baiona and see its highlights including the 13th-century Ex-Collegiate Church of Santa María and the Church of Santa Liberata. In the harbor, check out a replica of the Pinta, the famous ship that was part of Christopher Columbus’ first voyage. In 1493, the Pinta, piloted by Martín Alonso Pinzón, landed in Baiona, bringing the earliest news of the fleet’s transatlantic travels. After lunch with your group, enjoy the afternoon on your own to appreciate Baiona’s scenery and maritime ambience.

    Guimarães, Portugal | Braga | Baiona, Spain

    Today’s agenda showcases two Portuguese gems: the historic city of Guimarães and the baroque Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary in Braga. Begin with insights from a local expert about the history of northern Portugal. Guimarães, the birthplace of Portugal’s first king, boasts a lovely, compact historic center filled with well-preserved architecture including the Guimarães Castle. Learn about its connection to the origin of Portugal as a nation on a guided walking tour. After lunch there, continue to the 18th-century Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary in Braga, celebrated for its elaborate baroque staircase adorned with fountains and statues. Back in Baiona tonight, enjoy dinner on your own.

    Combarro

    Step back in time during a visit to Combarro, a quiet fishing village lined with weathered, 18th-century hórreos, stone granaries on stilts, and traditional fishermen’s houses. Meander through the pretty town with your guide before traveling to the Rías Baixas wine region. At a winery, sample the region’s highly regarded, crisp Albariño white wine and savor a leisurely lunch.

    Porto, Portugal | Baiona, Spain

    After breakfast this morning, depart by motor coach for Porto. Get to know this dynamic city on a full-day visit. Embark on a panoramic/walking tour that introduces you to the majestic Porto Cathedral overlooking the city; the São Bento Railway Station decorated with traditional blue-and-white azulejo tiles; and the colorful Ribeira district with great views of the double-decker Dom Luís I Bridge. Cap off your visit with a short cruise across the Douro River for a tasting of port wine in Vila Nova de Gaia, the historic home of Portugal’s renowned port wine cellars. Return to Baiona for dinner at the parador.

    Santiago de Compostela

    Since the Middle Ages, pilgrims have traveled along the Camino de Santiago’s routes with the goal of reaching Santiago’s impressive cathedral. Appreciate the special atmosphere of this revered destination as you study the cathedral’s ornate details on a guided tour, then see the landmarks of the old town during a walk. Next, visit the city’s popular market, the Mercado de Abastos, brimming with fresh seafood and meat, just-picked produce, cheeses and pastries. Explore more of Santiago on your own during free time afterward before returning to Baiona.

    Oia | A Guarda

    Sweeping ocean vistas await on a drive along the Spanish portion of the Portuguese Camino route that hugs the rugged Atlantic coastline. In Oia, enjoy a stop for coffee and the gorgeous views. Continue to A Guarda, and if you’d like, set off on a refreshing walk along one of the coastal paths that begins at the mouth of the Miño River. After lunch with your group in A Guarda, head up Mount Santa Trega to tour the fascinating ruins of an ancient Celtic fortified settlement. Later tonight in Baiona, gather with your fellow travelers for a Farewell Reception and Dinner to celebrate your wonderful sojourn in Galicia!

    In Transit/Depart for home city

    After breakfast, transfer to the airport in Porto, Portugal, and head home.
