-
day 4
Porto Venere/ Cinque Terre
Enjoy extraordinary views as the ship arrives in the medieval town of Porto Venere. Disembark after breakfast for a private boat cruise to the astounding Cinque Terre, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Visit two of its iconic cliffside villages — Vernazza and Monterosso — with time at leisure to explore at your own pace. You will have the option to return to the ship for lunch or remain in Porto Venere for lunch on your own and have extra time to enjoy the coastal scenery. Attend the Captain’s Welcome Reception on board this evening.
-
day 5
Bonifacio, France
The French island of Bonifacio greets you this morning. Your discovery of this dramatically situated medieval town begins with a tram ride from the harbor to the Haute Ville, or upper town, and around the plateau to savor panoramic views. Stroll through Bonifacio’s ninth-century citadel to see historic landmarks such as Place Bir Hakeim, St. Jean Baptiste church and Le Grain de Sable — a weathered rock formation that appears to collapse into the sea. Enjoy the Jardin des Vestiges and see the house where Napoleon stayed.
-
day 6
Sorrento, Italy
Wake up to beautiful views of Sorrento, an outpost of the ancient Roman Republic and the scenic gateway to Mount Vesuvius and Pompeii. Choose to explore the ancient petrified city of Pompeii to witness the extraordinary amphitheater — the earliest surviving stone amphitheater of the Roman world — and Temple of Jupiter, or set off to visit an olive oil estate, partake in a pizza-making class and enjoy lunch. Return to the ship for lunch or stay in Sorrento on your own. Shuttle buses will provide transportation from the port to Sorrento’s city center. Tonight, enjoy a tarantella performance featuring Neapolitan songs and dance.
-
day 7
Sorrento/Amalfi/ Isle of Capri
Admire the natural splendor of the UNESCO World Heritage‑designated Amalfi Coast on a panoramic drive that takes you past its sun‑drenched beaches to the medieval village of Amalfi. Enjoy a short orientation tour and some time on your own to explore the charming local boutiques and cafes. Return to the ship for lunch on board as we sail to Capri. Disembark this afternoon for a tour of captivating Capri, the island where, legend has it, Homer’s Odysseus resisted the alluring call of the sirens. Visit the Augustus Gardens, a series of serene, flower‑filled terraces that have breathtaking panoramas of the Faraglioni rock formations rising from translucent waters and the craggy peak of Mount Solaro, the highest point on the island. You will also see the ancient perfumery of Carthusia — the smallest fragrance laboratory in the world.
-
day 8
Salerno
Start the day with a special visit to the Museum of the Landing and Salerno Capital, accompanied by Professor Eisenhower. The museum is dedicated to the events of Operation Avalanche, the Allied landing on September 9, 1943, as part of the broader Italian Campaign, and the period when Salerno briefly served as Italy’s capital during World War II. Exhibits include maps, photographs and military artifacts such as WWII uniforms, weapons, field equipment and jeeps used by both Allied and Axis forces, offering a glimpse into wartime conditions. A large-scale diorama recreates the landing, showing troop movements and key locations, and personal testimonies and videos provide an immersive experience of wartime Salerno. Learn about this lesser-known chapter of WWII history and better understand Salerno’s importance in shaping post-war Italy. Next, walk through Salerno’s historic center to appreciate the charming mix of medieval streets, iconic landmarks and coastal beauty. Continue to the Giardino della Minerva Garden, a 14th-century medicinal garden containing a rich collection of herbs and plants used in medieval medicine. The garden is a living museum designed on terraced levels connected by delightful fountains and staircases overlooking the Gulf of Salerno. In the botanical garden’s peaceful atmosphere, learn about the ancient knowledge of herbal medicine. You may return to the ship for lunch or stay in Salerno to craft your own path. Join your fellow travelers for a Captain’s Farewell Reception. Raise a toast to your remarkable journey.
