This extraordinary artifact, chronicling William the Conqueror’s triumph in 1066, serves as the evocative starting point for a journey that spans centuries of leadership, influence and innovation. From this pivotal turning point, our journey unfolds, tracing the lives and legacies of some of the greatest figures in political, royal, scientific and military history. Through visits to magnificent houses, historic estates and the very sites where defining moments took place, each chapter reveals the human stories behind power and an exploration of the individuals who shaped the modern world. Upon arrival at Heathrow Airport, a private transfer will take you to our hotel, Hyatt Regency – The Churchill. In the evening, join the group for a welcome drink and canapés, followed by dinner.

London & The Bayeux Tapestry
Begin the day at a leisurely pace with a relaxed morning of free time, before heading to the British Library to experience the remarkable Bayeux Tapestry Exhibition, bringing to life one of Europe’s most celebrated historical narratives. On loan from Bayeux in France, this extraordinary 230-foot-long embroidery dates from the 11th century and depicts the events of 1064 to 1066, beginning with Edward the Confessor and culminating in the Battle of Hastings.
Later, indulge in a traditional afternoon tea in the elegant Hansom Room at the St Pancras London, Autograph Collection, a masterpiece of Victorian Gothic architecture. With its soaring ceilings, ornate detailing and richly atmospheric interiors, this iconic setting provides a truly memorable backdrop, made even more special by its appearance in the Harry Potter films, adding a touch of cinematic magic to our visit.

Kensington Palace, Apsley House & Benjamin Franklin House
We take a private guided tour of the elegant Kensington Palace, a royal residence steeped in history and refinement. Home to TRH The Prince and Princess of Wales and their family, the palace is set within beautifully landscaped grounds, including the stunning Sunken Garden, with vibrant seasonal displays. Once a cherished retreat of Diana, Princess of Wales, this peaceful space is now also home to a striking statue unveiled in her memory on what would have been her 60th birthday, commissioned by her sons as a heartfelt tribute to her enduring legacy.
Step into the grandeur of Apsley House, the magnificent London residence of the 1st Duke of Wellington. Known as ‘Number One, London’ due to its prestigious location at Hyde Park Corner, this stately home houses an extraordinary collection of fine art, including masterpieces by Velázquez, Rubens and Goya. Wander through lavishly decorated state rooms and the impressive Waterloo Gallery.
Discover the fascinating story of one of America’s Founding Fathers with a visit to Benjamin Franklin House, the only surviving residence of Benjamin Franklin during his years in London. Set within a beautifully restored Georgian townhouse, this unique museum brings history vividly to life through immersive storytelling and atmospheric surroundings. Explore the rooms where Franklin lived and worked, gaining insight into his contributions to science, politics and diplomacy.

Eltham Palace & Down House
Once a medieval palace and still boasting its Great Hall built in the 1470s, Eltham Palace once served as a playground for the young Henry VIII, who spent much of his childhood here in the 16th century. It was later leased from the Crown and, in the 1930s, transformed by wealthy owners into an elegant Art Deco mansion. Outside, we enjoy a guided tour with an expert gardener, exploring highlights such as the Sunken Rose Garden, the tranquil Rock Garden, an idyllic wildflower meadow, the medieval embankment and a series of beautifully designed garden ‘rooms’, all filled with delightful fragrance.
We make a visit to Down House, the former home of Charles Darwin and the place where he developed his revolutionary theory of evolution by natural selection. Set in the peaceful Kent countryside, this charming family home has been carefully preserved to reflect life during Darwin’s time, from his study, where On the Origin of Species was written, to the tranquil gardens and the famous ‘Sandwalk,’ where he took daily walks to think and reflect.

Battle Abbey & The Battle of Hastings, Rye & Bodiam Castle
Step back in time with a visit to Battle Abbey and the historic battlefield of the Battle of Hastings, the dramatic events of which are famously depicted in the Bayeux Tapestry. Here, in 1066, William the Conqueror secured his victory and forever altered the course of English history. Founded to commemorate this triumph, the abbey stands on the very ground where the battle is believed to have taken place. We explore the evocative ruins and imagine the vivid scenes of the Bayeux Tapestry coming to life, bringing the clash between Norman and Anglo-Saxon forces into sharp focus.
We stop at the enchanting hilltop town of Rye, once a medieval stronghold and smugglers’ haven, now a delightful mix of cobbled lanes, hidden passageways and centuries-old architecture. Wander through Mermaid Street, lined with picturesque half-timbered houses and perhaps visit the Ypres Tower or the charming independent shops and tearooms for a bite to eat.
Another highlight today is Bodiam Castle, one of Britain’s most picturesque and romantic ancient fortifications. This archetypal 14th-century moated castle with a ruined interior gives us a glimpse of medieval splendor and boasts an original wooden portcullis, spiral staircases, tower rooms and battlements.

Dover Castle & Leeds Castle
We visit Dover Castle, which rises majestically above the famous White Cliffs, commanding sweeping views across the English Channel. With origins dating back to the 11th century, this iconic fortress has played a pivotal role in England’s history, from medieval warfare to its crucial use during World War II. Known as the ‘Key to England,’ it has witnessed sieges, royal intrigue and military innovation across the centuries. There’s time to explore the impressive medieval Great Tower, wander through the extensive grounds and defensive works and take in the breathtaking coastal vistas.
Explore the magnificent Leeds Castle, a quintessential moated fortress set within 500 acres of beautifully landscaped parkland. Often described as ‘the loveliest castle in the world,’ its history spans more than 900 years, dating back to the 12th century. Over the centuries, it has served as a Norman stronghold, a royal residence for six medieval queens and a palace for Henry VIII, who brought his first wife, Catherine of Aragon, here. In the 20th century, it was transformed into an elegant country retreat, welcoming influential figures and high society guests. Here, we enjoy a traditional Ploughman’s lunch.

Quebec House & Chartwell
Quebec House is a beautifully preserved 16th‑century building that offers a glimpse into Georgian family life and gives insight into the early years of General Wolfe, the man who secured Britain’s victory at the Battle of Quebec in 1759. This decisive moment in history helped shape the future of Canada and the British Empire, making Wolfe a national hero.
Our discovery of Chartwell offers an intimate glimpse into the life of Sir Winston Churchill, who lived here from 1924 until his death. The house is filled with his personal belongings and political memorabilia, including an extraordinary collection of gifts from international figures. Painting was one of Churchill’s greatest passions and our specialist guided tour reveals both his artistic skill and the role creativity played in his life.

Blenheim Palace & Sulgrave Manor
Blenheim Palace is an awe-inspiring masterpiece designed by Sir John Vanbrugh and set within over 2,000 acres of magnificent parkland landscaped by Capability Brown. As the ancestral seat of the Dukes of Marlborough, the palace is closely linked to the Churchill family and is famed as the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. A permanent exhibition
celebrates the life of this iconic wartime Prime Minister, while the grand State Rooms showcase an exceptional collection of tapestries, paintings, porcelain and fine furniture. We discover more during our guided tour before enjoying lunch here.
We step into American history at Sulgrave Manor, a beautifully preserved Tudor home built in the 1500s by Lawrence Washington, ancestor of George Washington and find out more about the compelling story of the Washington family and their journey across generations. Restored in the early 20th century and opened to the public in 1921, the manor was gifted as a lasting tribute to the historic ties between Britain and the United States.

Hughenden Manor & Waddesdon Manor
Our travels take us to Hughenden Manor, once the cherished residence of Benjamin Disraeli, Queen Victoria’s ‘favorite Prime Minister’, and later an important center for covert operations during the Second World War. As we move through the house, we uncover richly decorated rooms that paint a vivid picture of Disraeli’s life and legacy, alongside the intriguing story of the manor’s secret wartime past.
Another highlight today is Waddesdon Manor, a spectacular country house created by the Rothschild family in the style of a grand French Renaissance château. Built in the 1870s by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild, it was designed as an opulent setting for entertaining and for displaying his outstanding art collection. One of the National Trust’s most popular properties, Waddesdon boasts an exceptional array of treasures, from Dutch Old Masters to British portraits and one of the finest collections of French decorative arts outside France. During our guided tour, we explore these remarkable interiors. Set within 5,000 acres of rolling parkland, the estate’s formal gardens showcase exquisite late Victorian design, featuring a Rococo-style aviary, elegant Parterre, sculptures and beautifully landscaped grounds. Afterward, we head to the Five Arrows Hotel, a Grade II listed building located at the gates of Waddesdon Manor, where we enjoy dinner this evening.

Hampton Court Palace
We visit Hampton Court Palace, where our guided tour brings the fascinating world of the Tudor court vividly to life. Discover the private lives and very public dramas of Henry VIII as we explore one of Europe’s most magnificent palaces. Highlights include Henry’s Great Hall, still bearing Anne Boleyn’s falcon badge, and the vast Tudor kitchens. There’s also time to follow in the footsteps of Henry’s six wives at the enchanting riverside gardens, alive with flowers and lined with grand yew avenues.

Osborne House & Isle of Wight
Osborne House was purchased by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1845 as a seaside retreat away from London and Windsor. The Italianate palace reflects Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s tastes and passions and boasts spectacular views across the Solent. It is no wonder that Victoria herself once said, ‘it’s impossible to imagine a prettier spot.’ We take an intimate glimpse of royal family life as we wander through the magnificent Royal Apartments, along with the walled gardens and grounds where we find the charming Swiss Cottage, used by the royal children to learn household management.
Time and ferry schedules permitting, we hope to discover the charm of the Isle of Wight, a stunning island just off England’s south coast, where natural beauty meets rich history and coastal adventure.

Nights four to six – Buxted Park Hotel, Uckfield
Located in the heart of pretty Sussex, the spectacular Buxted Park is set in 312 acres of idyllic private grounds and parkland. The bedrooms boast original Georgian features while the restaurant is award-winning, and you can even stroll down to Ashdown Forest, AA Milne’s inspiration for Winnie the Pooh’s home.
Nights seven to nine – Hartwell House & Spa, near Aylesbury
This Grade I listed, National Trust-owned property is one of England’s finest stately homes and makes for a wonderful hotel and spa. Sitting within an Area of Natural Beauty; just on the edge of the Chilterns, it boasts almost 100 acres of gardens and parkland, landscaped by the famous Capability Brown. Inside, the hotel offers individually designed bedrooms, complete with fine paintings, antiques and a superb ‘country house’ style of interiors. There is also a wonderful restaurant and relaxing spa (treatments are available at an extra cost).
Nights ten & eleven – Audleys Wood Hotel, Basingstoke
A grand Victorian manor house originally built as a private home, Audleys Wood Hotel is surrounded by lush woodlands and seven acres of private grounds on the edge of Basingstoke in the beautiful Hampshire countryside. The hotel has many period features and all bedrooms have been refurbished and offer a mixture of both modern and traditional features.
