You are embarking on an adventure where daily activities will be determined by weather, opportunities to view wildlife, and other various elements that make up the diverse landscape. This itinerary is a general listing of activities and excursions that may happen during any part of the program. Northern Lights viewing is not guaranteed. Many factors affect the visibility of this naturally occurring phenomenon.

Welcome to Fairbanks, renowned for spectacular sunsets, sunrises and northern lights viewing.

Upon arrival to Fairbanks International Airport a Expedition Leader with be waiting to assist with your transfer to the hotel. Take time to relax before joining your group to visit the University of Alaska’s Museum of the North for a special presentation, The Northern Lights: Science and Lore. Through a compelling blend of research and storytelling gain a deeper understanding of the aurora borealis including technical factors causing its appearance to historical views and cultural traditions associated with this colorful phenomena.

Afterward gather for a welcome reception followed by dinner.

Transfer to Borealis Basecamp • Northern Lights Viewing

After breakfast travel into Fairbanks’ boreal forest to Borealis Basecamp, a uniquely designed retreat situated beneath the vast Alaskan sky.

Settle into your private igloo featuring floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows offer uninterrupted views.

Later gather for an orientation to learn about the activities and excursions planned for the coming days. Your itinerary is intentionally unhurried, providing time each day to enjoy the surroundings and experiences at your own pace.

Rejoin the group at Latitude 65 for dinner this evening.

As darkness falls, return to the comforts of your igloo. With minimal ambient light and wide northern horizons, conditions are ideal for viewing the northern lights should they appear.

DON’T MISS! During your stay, meet with Borealis Basecamp’s expert photographer to capture stunning portraits with the northern lights. You’ll receive up to eight spectacular photos from this 15-30 minute relaxed photo session.

 

Wildlife Excursions • Optional Activities • Northern Lights Viewing

After breakfast set out for a one-of-a-kind guided reindeer walk. Accompanied by up to three reindeer, stroll through their natural habitat while learning the important impact these gentle creatures have on Alaska’s cultural and ecological landscape. Conclude the peaceful walk with a visit with the entire herd.

The remainder of the day is at leisure to enjoy the property. Take in the stillness of the surroundings, photograph the changing light across the treetops or simply unwind in your igloo.

Following dinner climb aboard a specially outfitted Toyota Tundra for a leisurely sightseeing excursion timed perfectly to capture the dynamic hues of the setting sun. Arrive at a hilltop location for remarkable photography opportunities. Enjoy a glass of champagne as the sun dips below the horizon then return to Basecamp.

Tonight settle in for another opportunity to view the northern lights from the comfort of your igloo.

 

 

 

 

Wildlife Excursions • Optional Activities • Northern Lights Viewing

Today take the chance to join an optional helicopter sightseeing tour for an aerial perspective over Alaska’s interior. Have your camera ready to capture epic views of Basecamp and the endless landscape from this unique vantage point. Follow part of the Trans Alaska Pipeline as you return to the property.

This afternoon meet a team of eager sled dogs before setting out with them on a thrilling ATV excursion. Learn about the enduring tradition of mushing in Alaska as your guide shares insight into the dedication, training and care poured into these beloved and respected animals.

The evening gather around the fire pit for convivial conversation, storytelling and delicious s’mores plus additional opportunities for northern lights viewing.

 

 

Optional Activities • Transfer to Fairbanks

Enjoy a final morning at Borealis Basecamp. Perhaps take advantage of the private on-site sauna, a relaxing finale to your adventures in the northern wilderness.

This afternoon check out and return to Fairbanks by motor coach. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore Fairbanks independently.

 

 

 

Depart Fairbanks

After breakfast guests departing during the suggested times take the complimentary transfer to the airport for flights home.
