John Meffert
John Meffert, consultant on Heritage Conservation Services, has a long tradition with the National Trust. He has served as the Director for our Southern Office and was the director of the Preservation Society of Charleston, the oldest nonprofit organization in the United States, responsible for preserving the historic resources of Charleston, S.C. John has delighted many study tour groups with his lectures and insights on preservation, and receives rave reviews as study leader.
CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS
Upon payment of the $1,000 per person deposit, all reservations are subject to the cancellation provisions set forth below and by which the passenger agrees to be bound. Cancellations shall not be in effect until they are received in writing and confirmed by the National Trust Tours. Deposits are refundable (less a $250 per person administration fee) if written notice of cancellation is received within 30 days of reservation; after that, deposits are 100% nonrefundable.

Marrakech, Morocco
Overnight flight to Marrakech, Morocco. (Optional pre-tour extension offered to Rabat, Fes, and the Atlas Mountains)

Marrakech
Arrive Marrakech and transfer to hotel. Evening free to recover from overnight travel.

Marrakech
Welcome orientation and lecture followed by an exploration of Marrakech’s exotic medina, the old walled section of the city nd a stroll through Djemaa el-Fna square, where dancers, mime artists and street musicians perform. Optional afternoon activities include 1) visiting the Dar El Bacha Palace and the Dar Si Said Museum of Moroccan Arts or 2) Morocco Historical tour viewing the 12th-century Koutoubia Mosque, a landmark Islamic religious structure, and Medersa Ben Youssef; Evening gala 1001 Nights dinner, with traditional cuisine, folkloric entertainment.

Marrakech
Optional sunrise balloon excursion (additional expense). Stay in Marrakech to explore the city’s top museums and enjoy regional specialties on a tasting tour or choose an excursion on 4wdrive vehicles to the High Atlas Mountains to admire majestic views as you hike to a picturesque village and spend time with local Berbers in their homes. Afterward, have lunch before returning to Marrakech. Afternoon for independent exploration.

Casablanca
Travel by coach to Casablanca, known for its Art Deco architecture. Lunch at Rick’s Café, stop at the Hassan II Mosque, the largest mosque in Morocco, and visit the central food and flower market. Afternoon embark Sea Cloud Spirit, depart for Agadir.

At Sea
Full day under sail with time for lectures and to enjoy onboard amenities; Captain’s welcome reception & dinner.

Agadir
Disembark in Agadir and travel by coach through the Sous Valley to the historic market town of Taroudant. Continue to Berber village of Tiout, amid date palm trees oasis. Visit a women’s co-op where argan oil is processed for culinary and cosmetic purposes. Afternoon at sea with time to enjoy amenities on board.

Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain
Morning at sea with time for lectures. Afternoon on Lanzarote to visit former home of Cesar Manrique, internationally recognized artist who dedicated his life to achieving a balance between tourism and the authenticity of his native island. Visit his former home in Tahiche, half submerged in volcanic rock. Explore the art gallery and cultural center. Return to the Sea Cloud Spirit and depart for Tenerife.

Lecture series continues, with time to relax and enjoy onboard amenities.

Tenerife, Canary Islands
AM cruising/sailing afternoon at Santa Cruz de Tenerife for exploration of the UNESCO World Heritage-designated town of San Cristóbal de La Laguna. Optional tour to Art Coleccion housed in a restored 18th century Canarian house, showcasing Canarian and international artists. Overnight in port w/dinner option ashore.

Tenerife, Canary Islands
Optional full day excursions include a visit to Parque Nacional de Teide, a UNESCO World Heritage site boasting the highest peak in Spain; or a panoramic island tour including wine tasting and nature walk. After lunch at a local restaurant, return to the ship, to sail towards Las Palmas. Gather this evening for Captain’s farewell reception and dinner.

Las Palmas, Gran Canaria
After breakfast, transfer to airport for flights home. Optional morning tour in Las Palmas for those with late flights.
