In Austria’s UNESCO World Heritage city and official culinary capital, learn about Graz’s history and traditions from a local expert. Then, take a guided walk through the old town to admire Graz’s dramatic baroque and medieval architecture. After the tour, enjoy the afternoon and evening at leisure. Have lunch, explore this walkable city and try one of Graz’s traditional Styrian restaurants for dinner this evening.

Eastern Styria/Riegersburg/Graz
This morning, set out on a panoramic drive through mountainous Eastern Styria to visit the 12th-century Riegersburg Castle, Austria’s largest castle enthroned upon a dormant volcano. Tour the castle and fortress, and take in the stunning panoramic views. Continue to Gölles, Austria’s largest vinegar and brandy distillery, for a behind-the-scenes tour, vinegar and schnapps tastings and a light lunch of traditional speckjause. Cap off your day with a delicious visit to the Zotter Chocolate Factory for an interactive tour, including samples of the renowned Austrian chocolate. Return to Salzburg and enjoy dinner at leisure.

Western Styria/Graz
Another day in the countryside takes you to the bucolic western portion of Styria, known as “Styrian Tuscany” for its distinctive hills, valleys, wine and culture. Today’s highlights include a visit to the iconic Lipizzaner stud farm to see the majestic white stallions, a wine-tasting lunch at a rustic inn-like buschenschank, and a visit to a family farm to learn about and sample the famed Styrian pumpkin seed oil. This evening, savor more of Graz’s famed cuisine at leisure.

Hallstatt | Salzburg
This morning, depart Graz for Salzburg on a panoramic drive through Austria’s scenic Salzkammergut region, stopping en route to visit the picturesque alpine village of Hallstatt. Stroll cobblestone streets through the charming market square on a guided tour, surrounded by breathtaking alpine scenery and the majestic Austrian Alps. Find a quaint café for lunch and some time at leisure. Then, visit the Welterbemuseum Hallstatt museum to gain a deeper understanding of Hallstatt’s history and see amazing archeological artifacts. Continue to Salzburg, check in to your hotel and find a restaurant in Salzburg for dinner on your own.

Learn about Mozart’s life and work this morning. Then, delight in a once-in-a-lifetime “The Sound of Music” 60th Anniversary coach and walking tour. Guided by a relative of the Von Trapp family, see iconic filming sites, including Mirabell Palace gardens, the lake and Alps district and the famous gazebo, where a violinist will play “Edelweiss” for the group. Then, begin a guided walk of historic Salzburg to admire beautiful baroque architecture, learn about composer Mozart and see some of the landmarks of his life. Then, take a funicular up to the Hohensalzburg Fortress to marvel at the 360-degree bird’s-eye views. Cap off this memorable day with a special Mozart concert and authentic Austrian dinner in a historic building.

Berchtesgaden, Germany | Bavarian Alps | Salzburg, Austria
Today, cross the border into Germany to experience the breathtaking, rugged Bavarian Alps. This exciting day takes you into the depths of the still-operating Berchtesgaden Salt Mine, founded in 1517. Then, continue to the Documentation Center Obersalzberg, a key location for Hitler’s inner circle and a retreat for top Nazi officials.
